Wow, These Socks Really Rock!

Every student has received a flyer or at least should have received a flyer, by their homeroom teacher, discussing Stacey Middle School’s new socks for sale.

That’s right, SOCKS for sale.

Stacey Middle has sold jackets, tee shirts, you name it, but never socks. Students are certainly in for a treat.

The three colors that are being sold are black with green, white with green, and green with white.

All orders are due on Thursday, Nov. 30th, that’s this Thursday.

Hey, you’re not much of a sock person? Well, they make a great stocking stuffer or gift for your friend or maybe even family members. Everyone loves the mom with school spirit wear!

So go ahead, order a pair or two. Spread that Stacey spirit!

The Mandela Effect

The Mandela Effect is one of the many conspiracy theories of 2017. It has been around for awhile, and it has been causing people confusion ever since.

How this all started.

In 2013 when Nelson Mandela died, a lot of people were really confused because they remember him dying in jail; in 1980. How is that possible? Theories about why so many people have the same false memory have been invented. This phenomenon was named The Mandela Effect by a girl named Fiona Bloome.

The “No Surgery for Smokers or the Obese” Policy

A controversy has stirred up in the United Kingdom (UK) about a “no surgery for smokers or the obese” policy. The clinical commissioning group (CCG) in Hertfordshire, England, and National Health Service recently made this controversial claim with the statement, “No surgery will be performed to patients who smoke or are obese until they improve their health. Exceptional clinical circumstances will be taken into account on a case-by-case basis.”

This controversy has been around since 2011, but the topic has recently been brought back up as the percentage of smokers, and the obese has drastically increased. Originally, the argumentative statement stirred up to prevent humans from purposely harming their own health, as smoking and obesity is an intentional act done by humans to damage their health, not a natural cause. In the UK, the government reported that 63% of adults in the country are overweight and 17% are smokers as of 2017. Previous records display that 27% of the United Kingdom population was obese in 2015 and 16% were smokers.

Confirmed! Disney’s Pixar Pier

If you were hanging around the Disney “News Channels” on YouTube in mid-July, you would know what was announced at the 2017 D23 Expo. One of the many things announced was the long-rumored Pixar Pier.

According to Disney, the current Paradise Pier is set to close early January just as The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror did last year.

Not too long ago Disney released artwork (shown above) of what Pixar Pier is going to look like. The land will be split into two parts. There will be Paradise Bay, with the following rides, Silly Symphony Swings, Jumpin Jellyfish, Goofy’s Sky School, Golden Zephyr, and The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure.

Stacey’s football team has played their last game of the season.

On Wednesday, November 15, Stacey played two home games out on our fields and was victorious. Here are the scores:

What’s Going On In Staconia? (Nov. 28 – Dec. 1)

Hello Staconians! We hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving and now you’re ready to learn!

Builder’s Club will be hosting a meeting today, Tuesday, after school for anybody interested in the club. Don’t worry if you’re not a member; we’re happy to see new recruits.

Also today after school, Mr. Cota will be hosting the first official practice for volleyball club. Good luck!

Orders for Stacey logo socks are due on Thursday. Don’t miss out on this. . . unique . . . edition to your wardrobe.

On December 1st, West Arts will be hosting a fundraiser by the name of Cabaret Night. It costs ten dollars to attend, but there will be a chance at winning a gift basket. Indulge in the talents and comedy of your peers as eighth-grade students serve you. (Work, peasants! Work!)

It’s the beginning of a new trimester, which means you’ll have plenty of time to get the grades you want and achieve your goals. If it seems like a daunting task, check out our Weekly Support Guide by Alyssa Manson. I know it may seem boring, but trust me, you’ll enjoy it.

P.S. Friday is Rosa Parks Day. On December 1st, 1955, Rosa Parks boarded a bus on her way home from work. When a white man asked her to stand so he could take a seat, she refused, saying that she was tired. She later told the press that she meant she was tired, not physically, but mentally. She was tired of the injustice she had felt her entire life.

New Trimester, Cougars

Now that Thanksgiving break is over, we are officially in our second trimester here at Stacey Middle School.

There will be many new opportunities put in place for each and every student. Now that you’ve made it through one trimester, you will know what you need to improve and what you are already good at.

For some students, there will be a change in schedules and classes. Teachers will also have higher standards and expectations going into the new trimester. Remember, coming back from Thanksgiving break does not mean you get to talk in class; school will still be a time to work and a place to stay on task and focus.

Going into the new trimester remember this:

1. You’re are two trimesters away from the end of the school year.
2. The second trimester is always harder than the first.
3. As long as you are working hard and trying your best on every assignment and test, you will most likely be successful throughout your middle school years.

Volleyball

Volleyball is starting soon. The girls first tryout was Tuesday, November 14th and the boys was Thursday, November 16th.

If you were selected to be on the team, make sure to come out to the field dressed out and ready to play. The first official practice will be November 28th after school.

Also, for those in Volleyball Club, the club ends November 17 and will start again sometime in the spring.

Mr. Cota is very excited to coach the volleyball team especially since he has seen so much talent in Volleyball Club. Just remember to try your best, Cougars!

Stacey vs Warner

That’s right Cougars, Stacey had another football game November 8th against Warner Middle School. Plenty of students showed up to support Stacey’s team.

The Stacey Football Team had been practicing and was positive that they would win. But, unfortunately, it was another loss to us. Warner beat our Stacey team with a score of 24-20. Better luck next time!

Did You Enjoy the Fall Fest?

Fall Fest, Stacey’s annual outdoor evening event, was last Thursday and many students had a terrific time. With great snacks and an awesome movie to watch, students had the perfect opportunity to spend a night making memories.

Despite having some small difficulties with getting the movie Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton, in color in the beginning, this movie was thrilling and fun. 

For two hours, students had fun either watching the movie, or just hanging out with friends. And although most students really enjoyed themselves, when talking to a few it is apparent some people want the function to change slightly. It’s all a matter of opinion and we want to hear yours.
