Days before National Kick Butts day plenty of people were jumping for joy as they were getting ready for the day March 21st, 2018. On kickbuttsday.org a blog posted by Gustavo Torrez stated, “Tomorrow, advocates across the United States and around the world will stand out, speak up, and seize control against Big Tobacco with creative, impactful events.”

What is the point??

Most people get the wrong message when they hear “Kick Butts Day” they don’t realize that it means cigarette butts.  That’s right Kick Butts Day is “a national day of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco,” according to kickbuttsday.org.

The whole point in National Kick Butts Day is to raise awareness of the problem that tobacco is being used by kids in certain areas, maybe even the one you live in now. Although there is only one official day titled “National Kick Butts Day” the organizers of these events are trying to gets this noticed as an everyday thing instead of a once a year thing. Whether people think Daylight savings is a huge inconvenience, the best thing in the world, or just another cause for sleep deprivation, most people around the world can agree that daylight savings is something that just has to happen and always does. Or so you might think.

Daylight Savings is the practice of setting the clock forward 1 hour at exactly 2 am. And as previously mentioned, the reality for most is that this happens on March 11.

However, this “reality” is only true for some. In the UK, for example, people observe daylight savings time on March 25, not the 11th. While this may seem odd to those who change the time on March 11, to many, it is completely normal. They also revert back to normal on October 28, not November 4. As most people know Journalism had a story contest. A specific genre and word count were given. Because of the small number of entries, we decided to make an extension in the due date and the number of pages.

Thanks to language arts students and their second-trimester narratives, we got plenty of amazing stories. Some stories didn’t fit the action-adventure genre exactly, but they were still accepted.

With a total of 15 stories entered, we chose the winners. All that can be said at this point is the that there are three winners and every story that was read was amazing. Continue reading “Journalism Story Contest!”

Meme Day

Averi Farren

Meme day is here! Many students have been anticipating this day, March 30th, and have thought of all the memes they could use to get their costumes ready.

What is a meme many might be wondering? A meme (mēm/ noun) is an element of a culture or system of behavior that may be considered to be passed from one individual to another by non-generic means, especially imitation. A humorous image, video, piece of text, etc., that is copied (often with slight variations) and spread rapidly by Internet users.

Basically, a meme is a picture/video with a funny caption that you relate to, quote on the daily, or have a good laugh at it and send it to a couple friends. Many send them via Instagram, Snapchat, iMessage, Twitter, etc. Continue reading “Meme Day”
