What Is Socialism? Why Is It So Bad?

Socialism is the new fad nowadays, but what is it? Why is it popular? And why is it immoral? This article will answer all of your questions.

Socialism is an economic and political ideology that highly shortens or eliminates the gap between social classes. Defined by dictionary.com socialism is a “Political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.”  

What socialism basically means is that all production, distribution, and exchanges are managed by the government. This means that the labor and money made by citizens belong to the community, aka the government. It is popular in today’s day and age because people don’t look at it as theft.

A Forgotten Sport

It’s common knowledge that our school offers a variety of sports at either P.E., for fun, or to even play for our school. For example, we have flag football for both P.E. as well as our school team, likewise for volleyball soccer, softball, and basketball. Badminton is a club, and the running team/track for our school works as a club too.

We also have more obscure sports that are more centered in P.E. like Olympic handball and frisbee golf. Already you can tell we have a nice selection of sports to pick from, but there’s something that caught my curiosity recently, and I wondered why it wasn’t also included.

You may or may not know about another sport called Lacrosse; it’s a sport that doesn’t get as much attention as other sports. Some of the reasons why it’s not super mainstream are because it’s referred to as a more elite sport sometimes because of how expensive all the gear can be and all the paraphernalia that comes with it. Lacrosse is usually compared to hockey and football. Hockey for how the game works and football because its somewhat of a contact sport, but there are different versions that are less rough or require minimum if no contact.

The Phantom of the Opera

The most popular musical of all time, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s magical creation, “The Phantom of the Opera” came to Huntington Beach. Academy of Performing Arts’ (or APA) Musical Theatre Department who performed the show throughout the month of March. 

There were six shows performed in total, on March 15-17, and March 22- 24. It was performed in Huntington Beach High School’s District Auditorium and Bell Tower.

Not only did “The Phantom of the Opera,” practically fill every seat, every night, but one of the people filling those seats was truly extraordinary. Believe it or not, the famous Michael Crawford, the original “Phantom” himself, went to see the incredible show.

We all know it and can probably recite it by heart. “The Pledge of Allegiance,” is engraved in almost all every American above the age of five’s mind. Every day, kids all across America stand together and in the same monotone voice, recite the words like the mindless robots they have become. We have all been programmed to know the words and say them without any thought or emotion. We have been taught since kindergarten to stand stiff as a board, with our right hand over our heart, and tell the flag these random words we don’t understand. Looking in on it from the outside, it seems completely insane.

Mr. Yohn Conspiracy Theories: Part II

We all know Mr. Yohn as a very extra teacher. Although many conspiracy theories on Mr. Yohn have already surfaced, there are still many mysterious and intriguing things about this Social Studies teacher that we have yet to uncover. Let’s get into this.

Is Mr. Yohn Shaggy From Scooby-Doo?:

Now, this theory isn’t exactly original. It was created by Jenna Martinez; an eighth grader who reads the Cougar Chronicle. *Thank you Jenna.* Her theory is that Mr. Yohn is Shaggy from Scooby Doo. Where’s the evidence for this?

Well, Mr. Yohn was once caught wearing a baggy green shirt and brown cargo pants just like Shaggy from Scooby Doo. He also wears other clothing items that people could compare to Shaggy. We, however, have yet to confirm that he has a dog (which would probably be named Scooby).

Why Band Students Aren’t Feeling Very “Excellent”

On March 7th, a long-awaited Band field trip took advanced band students to Kennedy High School. This wasn’t just any regular field trip, it was a band festival.

To those of you who aren’t in band, a festival is a field trip in which the band students go to get “graded,” if you will, on how well they play.

The bus came and took the students during first lunch with all of them having butterflies in their stomachs.

When the band students arrived at Kennedy High School for the festival, they were sent to unpack their instruments and practice in a large waiting/practice room. The students practiced their three songs, “Bryce Canyon” “Overture,” “Gentle Winds,” and “Latin Fire.” After the practice room, they were ready to go on stage in front of the judges.

Adpocalypse

YouTube.com is a video sharing, a social media platform that most people in today’s digital age are familiar with. Your mom and even grandparents have most likely heard of YouTube. YouTube is very successful, they make revenue from advertising that also allows the people who create videos (often referred to as YouTubers)  make money through a program called Adsense earnings when ads are enabled on their videos.

A lot of active social media users and general users of the app may be aware that YouTube videos can be demonetized unfairly and wrongfully done. They can appeal demonetization but still, it may take some time.

This is all due to the adpocalypse that arose in March of 2017 and ended in May after a scandal that caused many sponsors and advertisers to withdraw from YouTube and to boycott the website. Even after the “adpocalypse” though the effects still lingered with a rampant copyright bot made by YouTube that would unfairly demonetize YouTubers.

You might be wondering by now what “Adpocalypse” means. It refers to how all the ads on YouTube were mostly withdrawn and taken away from YouTubers, which can be a big deal for bigger YouTubers that rely on ads for their daily income. Because the bigger channels creators have most likely made YouTube their main and only source of income, when the ads started going away, it caused a panic on the site and the term the “adpocalypse” was coined.

I love America, and so should you. Not because of the government, but because of the rich history and culture. The American Spirit is strong and glorious. The people of America are mighty and full of life. Culture. America has an immense amount of it.

From California to Kansas to New York, the people and souls are different. New York, for example, is known for its Italian based society, California for its beaches and hot summers, Kansas for countrysides and southern fire.

But what these each individual states all have in common is that they are all in the US. Yet they are all extremely different from one another. The culture of America as a whole is that people from all corners of the world can build a new life.
