DC Trip

As almost any Stacey student would know, the Washington D.C trip is one enjoyed by many eighth graders over spring break. For six days, students adventured through Virginia, Pensylvania, and New York. Here is the breakdown of their journey throughout the East Coast.

Virginia/ Washington D.C.

After getting off their red-eye flight, Stacey students immediately began their exploration of D.C. On their first day, students got to see Ford’s Theatre, the place of the historic Lincoln assassination, the Holocaust Museum, and Arlington National Cemetary. There, they got to see many historic tombs, most notably, John F. Kennedy and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Afterward, they saw the Holocaust memorial.

The Mega Mile : Information

Today, April 25th, Stacey is hosting yet another Mega Mile competition. The runners participating in this event will run a regular mile and the one who comes in the first place will earn 20 dollars. They are also getting a chance to beat the Stacey record for the fastest mile recorded for the event and have their name posted on the winner’s board.

At the end of the day, at 2:45, the participants will go to the locker room and will change into their P.E. clothes. Next, they will line up at the normal mile starting line, then they will go as told and will most likely run as fast as they can. The race will go on till the first person finishes and so on.

Bring it on Trimester 3

Trimester 3 is well underway and there are so many fun activities to come. Next month, in May there will be an open house on the 8th to showcase all of the hard work students have put in this year. Then on June 18th is the last day of school as well as the talent show. The school day will only be from 8:15 to 11:15 am.

For eight graders, 3rd trimester means our years at Stacey are coming to an end. Yes, it’s a sad time but the end of the year also has a ton of fun activities. The DC/New York trip just passed over spring break. All of the eighth graders who went had a great time and are sure this will be an experience they will never forget.

Another fun eighth-grade activity is the Knott’s Berry Farm field trip. Eighth graders will need to complete all three service hours and turn them into their homeroom teacher by the twenty-ninth of May to go on this trip. There will be more information given out closer to the event.

Are Writers and Journalists The Same?

People may be wondering, are writers and journalists the same? They both do the same thing, which is write. Maybe they are the same. This is one heck of a mystery.

Let’s have a conversation about writers. Medium.com says that writers tend to have a thousand unwritten pieces rattling around in his/her head. It also says that they tend to have different points of view than journalists. Being a writer is an exercise in looking at all the potential pieces they want to write, then prioritizing it.

Take J.K. Rowling for example. She wrote an entire series of Harry Potter, even though she was told that she would never succeed, and after getting rejected 12 times. After finishing the series, her books were published by Scholastic and she became the richest woman in the U.K.  

The Benefits and a Downfall of the Jupiter-Ed System

Jupiter Ed is a system created for students to check their grades, look for upcoming assignments, check assignments that they have not done, check GPA, send messages to teachers, and much more. It is very helpful; however, it definitely has some things that need improvement.

To begin, there are many helpful and good things there as well. For example, when a student has a missing assignment or a failing grade in a class, Jupiter will send a message to the parent email and the student email. Although most students would not think it would be a plus for their parents to see their failing grade, it will definitely help them get their grade up and be more focused on improving.

Another benefit of using Jupiter Ed is that a student can message a teacher whenever they would like, they can message the principal anonymously, or showing their identity. The anonymous messaging is very helpful because it allows students to report bad behavior they have seen and tell the principal anything, without having to get involved. Messaging teachers is also very helpful because students can ask them about an assignment they are confused about, due dates, instructions on a certain assignment, and much more.

Summer, Here We Come

That’s right, spring break is over and our next break isn’t until summer. There are only 40 more days of school until summer, Stacey Cougars.

For 8th graders that means they will no longer be a Stacey student and will be on their way to high school.  

Summer can be filled with plenty of activities such as going on vacation, heading to the beach, sitting on the couch watching the TV, hanging out with family members or literally anything else.

Stacey’s First Soccer Game of the Year

Both of Stacey’s soccer teams played the Johnson Wildcats on April 10th and ended up beating Johnson. We could not be more thrilled.

The girls’ soccer team smashed the Wildcats with an ending score of 6 to 0. Carolena Provenzino a 7th grader on the girls’ soccer team says, “I think that the team played really well, and I helped with two great assists. Overall, it was a great experience.”

On the other hand, the boys’ soccer team beat Johnson with a narrower final score of 2 to 1. 7th grade Caiden Rodriguez says, “It was fun, and when Tanner Bartling scored the final goal to get them a win he was ecstatic.”

The next game will be at Warner on April 30th. Let’s hope our Stacey soccer team can pull out another win, and also holding the title of undefeated.

 

 

 

Dancing Through the Decades Dance

National Junior Honor Society hosted the Dancing Through The Decades dance on April 10th. There was a variety of activities available at this dance and it was one to remember.

There was a Tetris wall that was amazing for taking pictures, a scrapbook wall where the students could see all the teachers in the 80s, escape rooms, a live DJ and dancing, food and beverages for sale, and a Rubik’s Cube competition.

The music consisted of some music from the 80s and also some requests from students. There were many dance circles and people just showing their skills to each other, including the teachers. There were many teachers dancing their hearts out on the dance floor while all the students watched and joined.

There was pizza, Cup of Noodles, many varieties of chips and candy, water, and soda for sale. All of the food was very fairly priced and delicious.

The ACM Awards in Case You Missed It

For all you country fans out there, you probably already knew about the ACM Awards. They were held on Sunday, April 7th at 8pm PDT. This was the 54th annual Academy of Country Music Awards. They were hosted by Reba McEntire for the 16th time. The event was held at the beautiful Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas

Reba is a wonderful host and had a lot of jokes to tell. She brought up the fact that it had recently snowed in Las Vegas saying “ It was so cold it froze us women out of entertainer of the year”. Later in the show, McEntire joked about some of the interesting duets in music now, many between country and hip-hop/pop artists. She joked that she and Cardi B would be making a song titled, “There’s No ‘U’ in Oklahoma and That’s Okuurrrtt with Me,” playing with Cardi’s infamous catchphrase.

The show opened with a performance by Florida Georgia Line and Jason Aldean, who preformed their hit “Can’t Hide Red”.
