The End of Stacey’s Broadcast Journalism

Gavin Mercado

It had to happen someday. That’s right, Broadcast Journalism will have it’s very last classes and it’s very last articles this June! Many journalism students are very upset. Many of the students including Ashley Wolf and Gwyndalynn Kent were left with jaws dropped when Ms. Walters broke the unfortunate news.

However, Broadcast Journalism isn’t ending just because. There is a reason for it. As many people know, Ms. Karsh is planning to retire this June. This means that somebody had to teach art. As it turned out, Ms. Walters was the best candidate for the job.

Not only is Ms. Karsh retiring, but, Ms. Walters says that she can, “Barely fill the [journalism] class each year.” Later she said, “Broadcast Journalism was almost canceled this year due to the fact that I had trouble filling the class. It takes a special interest to want to write for an elective.” Only 14 students signed up for the class. Only 11 were actually put into the class. Currently, there are still 12. One student dropped out, however, and a new student joined. Continue reading “The End of Stacey’s Broadcast Journalism”

My Treatment of Being a Trump Supporter

Dylan Weber

You may have seen a boy, about 5’11, white, dirty blonde hair and blue/green eyes wearing a hat featuring the words “TRUMP” and “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.” Surprise, surprise, that was me.

The one thing that was a big surprise to me was the treatment I was receiving from fellow classmates.

Recently, I ran a bit of an experiment to see how students and staff would react to a pro-Trump student walking the halls. The results made me both proud and disgusted. Continue reading “My Treatment of Being a Trump Supporter”

Debunking Anti-Vaxxers and Rebutting Their Claims

Gavin Mercado and Grace Baer

Vaccinations are a heated topic that has been building fire in recent times. While many follow the guidelines doctors have recommended for years in order to reduce the spread of deadly diseases, some are skeptical or even outright confrontational regarding the science. The truth is, many of these anti-vaxxers are misinformed and are putting their beliefs before doctors and scientists who have studied diseases and successfully used vaccines for hundreds of years.

Sorry, Sharon, crystals are not going to cure your child’s measles, and no, crystals are not going to cure your child’s flu. Now let’s get to some scientific evidence.

Many anti-vaxxers claim that vaccinations are unsafe because they contain a substance called Mercury or (Hg). A vaccine used to contain 25 micrograms of mercury. This may seem like a lot, however, a normal serving of fish contains 40 micrograms. Continue reading “Debunking Anti-Vaxxers and Rebutting Their Claims”

There are Two Sides to Every Fire

Madison Evans

Ever since the Notre Dame fire, many have shared opinions on the great donations towards repairing it. After over $1,000,000,000+ has been donated, some people have expressed thoughts about how we could’ve used this money to solve many of Earth’s other big problems. Others believe that it is all for a great cause and are grateful for the outpouring of donations.

First, thousands of people who question the new found money are angered that the $1,000,000,000 is being used to rebuild could have used to help solve many huge world problems. This includes donations that could have been made towards the Sri Lanka bombing on Easter 2019. Over two hundred people died, along with many people injured. The funds could have helped the families and victims if given to them. It could have helped hospitalize the people and give them stability while injured. Is The Mile Necessary?

Grace Baer

For many Stacey students, the mile is a burden. Running on the uneven field while panting, out of breath is not usually somebody’s favorite thing to do. We ask ourselves is the mile necessary or how will this help me get a job in the future? These are all questions generations of students have pondered.

Many students also disagree on timing the mile. Student Marian Montez says, “They shouldn’t base a grade on something as simple as exercise. While some kids have higher stamina, others may not.”

Mr. Thorsen, one of Stacey’s three PE teachers responds to comments like this with, “We just want you to try your best.” But students are still failing to see the reasoning behind the mile. Continue reading “Is The Mile Necessary?”
