James Charles Is Still in A Sister Scandal

Gavin Mercado & Grace Baer

The butterfly effect. The theory that something as small as a butterfly could launch a sequence of events leading to a tornado. This happened to YouTuber/Influencer James Charles when he accepted SugarBearHair security at Coachella. This contract had him promote the company on his Instagram story. Many subscribers sent this to close friend and Influencer Tati Westbrook. She broke down on her Instagram story. She deleted it soon after. Following the breakdown, the next Thursday, she uploaded a video titled “BYE SISTER.”

The video addresses all the drama between her and James, stating that their relationship was not transactional but in fact, she paid his way to the top, with brand deals and collabs, he started to climb the ladder of fame. She then told of him at her birthday dinner, making explicit comments about the waiter and when she told him that the waiter was straight, James Charles reportedly made the comment, “It doesn’t matter, I’m a celebrity.” WOW! How egocentric and manipulative this can seem to some fans. Tati said she had to call everyone afterword and apologize on his behalf. She repeats that she thought he would mature out of this behavior. Alas, he “didn’t” and it came back for the worst. Continue reading “James Charles Is Still in A Sister Scandal”

Adpocalypse

Gavin Lopez

YouTube.com is a video sharing, a social media platform that most people in today’s digital age are familiar with. Your mom and even grandparents have most likely heard of YouTube. YouTube is very successful, they make revenue from advertising that also allows the people who create videos (often referred to as YouTubers)  make money through a program called Adsense earnings when ads are enabled on their videos.

A lot of active social media users and general users of the app may be aware that YouTube videos can be demonetized unfairly and wrongfully done. They can appeal demonetization but still, it may take some time.

This is all due to the adpocalypse that arose in March of 2017 and ended in May after a scandal that caused many sponsors and advertisers to withdraw from YouTube and to boycott the website. Even after the “adpocalypse” though the effects still lingered with a rampant copyright bot made by YouTube that would unfairly demonetize YouTubers.

You might be wondering by now what “Adpocalypse” means. It refers to how all the ads on YouTube were mostly withdrawn and taken away from YouTubers, which can be a big deal for bigger YouTubers that rely on ads for their daily income. Because the bigger channels creators have most likely made YouTube their main and only source of income, when the ads started going away, it caused a panic on the site and the term the “adpocalypse” was coined. On January 4th, 2019, an unknown Instagram user decided to post a picture of a brown egg. Everyone was talking about it, wondering why someone would do this in the first place. But when they read the caption, all was explained. Of course, eggs are just an everyday breakfast food- but breakfast had nothing to do with this.

It all started when Kylie Jenner posted a picture of her five-day-old baby, Stormi Webster, on February 6th, 2018. The post was created to announce the baby’s name to her 123 million followers and fans. With everyone adoring the picture of the baby holding her mother’s thumb while asleep, it had the most likes on Instagram- over 18 million.

Almost a year later, the unknown Instagram user posted the picture of the egg; and all to prove a point. The caption read, “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this.” Continue reading “What is this World Record Egg?”

It’s time to open up about this situation.  Many people hated this year’s YouTube Rewind. Those who don’t believe this then, look at how many dislikes it has, about 15 million dislikes.  That breaks the record for the most disliked video which previously was “Baby” by Justin Bieber with 9.8 million dislikes.

To start, it’s missing all kinds of big events that happened this year.  First, why is there no PewDiePie? About everyone should know what happened to PewDiePie, his battle with T-Series is still going on and yet he isn’t in the video?

There have been so many articles and videos that have talked about this fight between these two channels.  Many YouTubers such as Mr. Beast are trying their best to help Pewdiepie get the upper hand. One hacker has killed two birds with one stone which was helped Pewdiepie and raising awareness for printer safety.  Not putting Pewdiepie in there was a bad mistake. Snapchat Update Shenanigans

The new Snapchat update has redefined the meaning of Snapchat. Many of Snapchat’s users are asking for an ‘un-update’ because the new update is just not cutting it.

“Ok, so the new Snapchat update is really bad. It makes me want to not watch stories and it is very confusing to navigate,” says Lisa Ponti, 8th grader.

The new snapchat update has separated the social from the media. This means that the stories from your friends appear on the left side along with your chats and the stories from publishers, creators, and the community are on the right. This has caused some confusion with what time people’s stories had been sent and if it is a private snap or their story. Continue reading “Snapchat Update Shenanigans”
